Against Me!’s new album can’t help but feel like a debut: It’s the Florida punk band’s first album since singer Laura Jane Grace (f.k.a. Tom Gabel) came out as a woman. She still barks her lyrics with fiercely assertive intelligence, with the added benefit of comfort and courage in her own skin.
I’m part of this amazing series of Polyvinyl Record Company singles tracked on Of Montreal’s old 4-track. These are only available by subscribing to the series (they won’t be released digitally, but each 7” will come with its own download code). I remember getting this record in the fall of 2003 from the radio station to review. That record struck a cord with me and I still enjoy it today as much as I did 10 years ago. His records since then have only gotten better and better with each release. I’m looking forward to seeing Kevin tonight at The Basement in Columbus, OH.
